There was a time when America had a good immigration system. Everyone came here legally. All through the 1800s and early 1900s, Many Europeans arrived daily through Ellis Island in New York. People wanting a new life heard stories of America and how they could be prosperous here. They wanted their families to have a better life than they had. So they packed whatever they could carry and came from Italy, Ireland and other countries and settled here, many in New York City and Chicago. When coming here, immigrants waved small American flags, not the flag of Mexico. They came here to make America their home, not to change it to their former country.
Years ago, the democrat party, in a bid to retain power over the people, put many immigrates on the welfare rolls. This was a way to give minorities free medical, free housing and free food. The democrats believed this would control voting in their favor. But this idea got way out of hand as the decades turned. It got to a point where the border gates were simply opened and everyone and anyone could pour in. Terrorists, criminals and the lowest of mankind came pouring into the country. The entire immigration system was broken. Finally, president Donald Trump began the process of fixing it and had to fight the democrats tooth and nail.
Immigration always was meant for the betterment of America. We allowed people to come who would contribute to society. However, it turned into a way for gang members and other criminals to seek refuge from the laws of their former countries. These criminals murdered, raped and victimized American citizens. Trump had most of them deported. During Trump's terms, we finally had "0" entries over the border and, once again, an immigration system that worked.
